Flooring Workshop

Fired clay is one of the most ancient known materials used in costruction.

In the eastern peninsular, the format for floors was known as “Mazarí” which means “piece of fired clay”. This name comes from the Mazarinos, the old Arabian potters.

The Mazari material is the origin of the flooring workshop as well as to name given to the company. The old terracotta tile, our star product, is available in different sizes, shades and thicknesses and is finished depending upon the area in which it was originally made.

In the past there was more than one format among the different craftsmen. The features of clay are different depending on the area of origin and methods of firing vary according to the temperature and kind of oven. This means that terracotta tiles have different appearance thus making the tiles, the Mazari itself, particularly original.

The average most popular houses of this period never had a floor area measuring more than hundred square metres, so it is difficult to find a large number of terracotta tiles in the same location.

When the tiles arrive at the flooring workshop, the Mazarí staff select, clean, restore and classify each one. They are then carefully packed for safe delivery.

Nowadays the workshop has evolved to allow us to offer other products such as stone, marble, cement tiles and slate.

We have now created two well defined products: on one hand the marketing of antique flooring and on the other hand the manufacturing of reproductions by means of handcrafted tiles which accurately reproduce the patina and the character of erosion over time. In this way, we can pay particular attention to specific requirements.
