Wood is one of the world's oldest materials that has been used by humans for millenniums. It was first used to make simple fires and then later to make an enormous variety of tools. The subsequent skill of carpentry brought with it its use as a means of artistic expression with a rich variety of examples of different styles all through the ages.
At Mazari de Epoca we only use antique wood recycled from old buildings that have fallen into disuse.
Antique wood retains its value more than new wood partly because it was grown in a natural environment. Traditionally, wood was always felled during a waning moon and has been cured with the passing of time. Its own sap acts as a natural preservative helping to retain its original features and acts as a natural protector against the elements.
We alse treat our wood with autoclave which enables us to offer a total guarantee of protection against xylophagous.
Altough more difficult to work with, cured woods are of excellent quality and offer natural shades of dark and salmon colours not comparable to the paleness and mass produced look of new wood.
Ancient wood, when naturally squared and its original patina is respected, is a material which gives a noble character to a home and a very cosy environment. In our workshops at Mazari de Epoca, we have highly skilled carpenters trained to get the best out of antique wood. The original assembly methods are restored and reconstructed, ensuring the correct proportions are maintained. We restore and reproduce to a high level of accuracy and quality desirable items such as large doors, windows, coffered ceilings, pergolas, wood floorboards, furniture, balaustrades and bookcases plus many other items. We only use traditional methods of construction that have been tried and tested through the years.
The metal workshop makes the iron fittings which give the definitive character to each and every piece of our work.
Mazari de Epoca offers a comprehensive service to customers from the initial advisory stage to delivery, whether in Spain or elsewhere in the world. Mazari de Epoca will fit finished pieces in the customers' home and treat them in situ, ensuring they are in balance with their new surroundings while retaining their charm, proportions and antique feel.
